Meetings are held at 7.30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month in the Ad Lib Gallery at Drury Lane Library, Drury Lane, Wakefield. Non-members are very welcome, a nominal fee of £1 is charged.

14 September 2011 More Deadly than the Male by Dr Phil Judkins Unusual roles taken by women in warfare.
12 October 2011 Huddersfield Narrow Canal Bicentenary Year by Dr Bob Gough, Huddersfield Canal Society Administrator 4th April 1811 marked the official opening of the Standedge Tunnel and the completion of the through navigation from Ashton-under-Lyne to Huddersfield. The talk focuses on the history of this iconic tunnel.
9 November 2011 The life and times of the Knights Templar in Yorkshire by Trish Colton & Diane Holloway, authors of 'The Knights Templar in Yorkshire.' An illustrated tour of all ten Knights Templar preceptories in Yorkshire, and what medieval life was like for them and the general population.
14 December 2011 Traditional Fare by Peter Brears, food historian. The food of the working communities of nineteenth century Yorkshire.

Joint meeting with Wakefield Civic Society

The Manor of Wakefield, its courts and court rolls by Sylvia Thomas, President of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society. In May 2011 the Wakefield Manor Court Rolls were placed on the UNESCO UK Memory of the World Register of outstanding records holding documentary heritage. This talk will look at the organization of the manor, the court rolls and their conservation.
8 February 2012 The Past From Above: Aerial Archaeology in West Yorkshire by Matthew Oakey, English Heritage Aerial Survey & Investigation team. An introduction to the work of the team with a look at what the mapping of aerial photography has revealed in our area, from Iron Age and Roman landscapes through to World War II military remains.
14 March 2012 AGM and Members' Evening An opportunity to have a say in the running of the Society, and then to hear what some of our members have been finding out.
11 April 2012 The British Kingdom of Elmet: recent archaeological evidence from West Yorkshire by Ian Roberts, Principal Archaeologist, West Yorkshire Archaeological Service. Evidence of the existence and extent of the British Kingdom of Elmet in the 5th and 6th centuries has been limited. Now recent archaeological investigations have shed further light on this transitional period.
